“Power is in a constant flux and power shifts like the ebbs and flow of the tide. This is amply demonstrated in the ‘political tsunami’ of 2008 in Malaysia. This flux is in no small measure determined by the ethical performance of the ruling government of the day. The rise and fall of any ruling power depends largely on the manner of its governance in which the use/misuse of power is of quintessential determinant factor. This essay will first explain the nature of power from the perspective of social science and its morality based on the Compendium of Social Doctrine of the Church (CDSC). Ethical governance will then be dealt with, from the perspective of the CDSC. The essay will also explain the need for the virtue of integrity that is grounded in three interrelated virtues: governance, transparency and accountability.”
